Thai Dragon Pepper
Capsicum annuum
This is one of easiest peppers to grow. They range in hotness from about 50,000 + scoville units and are long and slender with thin skins and usually take about 70-90 days for harvest, sometimes the plants will yield twice before the the end of the growing season. These are one of the best peppers for drying and are great to cook with whole or chopped into pieces. The peppers turn from dark green to bright red when ripe.

Hey Shane,
ReplyDeleteLove the blog!
Got a question for ya: Can you please explain what a "scoville unit" is? Maybe offer some comparisons? Like what's the scoville rating for a Taco Bell sauce?
Thanks!
B
The scoville is a test created by Wilber Scoville in 1912.The test rates how hot a pepper actually is by taking extract from a measured amount of the pepper is question, then diluting it in units of sugar water until it is undetectable by a panel of human tasters (usually about 5 people). Example: If it took 10,000 units of sugar water to dilute the pepper extract to an undetectable amount by the tasters it now has a rating of 10,000 scoville units.
ReplyDeleteA jalapeno has a rating of about 5000 scoville units so I can say that the taco bell hot sauce is probably not even that hot, less than 5000.
That peper was the hottest FUCKING thing i ever ate!!!
